Slow Flow is an open level space to explore the fundamentals of movement in community. Incorporating yogic and somatic teachings, we will cultivate embodied awareness by moving through both set material and improvisational inquiries. Through mindful movement, we will investigate movement pathways that support ease and safety. Come as you are, leave with a grounded spaciousness in the body/heart/mind. Please wear pants, as we will spend a good amount of time on the floor, and if you have sensitive knees feel free to bring knee pads.

Focusing on access for immunocompromised and COVID-conscious folx, this face mask mandatory class will provide foundations for contemporary dance, including floorwork and inversions, supporting both those new to contemporary dance and seasoned dancers. Through guided improvisation and choreographed exercises we will explore moving the body safely, efficiently, and dynamically throughout the space. There will be warming-in, phrase work, across the floors, and an ending combination. Be ready to tune into your body’s sensations and challenge yourself to think and move in different ways.

In this container we will explore varying tools from modalities across movement disciplines, and encourage each participant, to find unique entrance points to their own body that allow them deeper and easier access to their flow state. We begin with a guided improv based warmup, before exploring a specific spiritual/philosophical theme through small group exercises & finish with a somatic celebration moving together as a whole.

Gender Expansive Dance Class is an intentionally sober and access-focused space for trans and queer people to practice embodiment and presence. The class is lead by Alyssa Rose (they/them) – a trans, queer, disabled, SWANA improvisational and healing artist. This trans/disabled-lead and nervous-system informed practice is intended to cultivate more feelings of safety, less fear of being misgendered, and foster greater connection to ourselves and others in community. We will begin by practicing mindful deep listening with our body-heart-mind, and then move through improvisation scores that connect us to our innate creatureness – transforming, dignified, and alive. This class is specifically for 2SLGBTQIA+ movers of all intersectional identities and experience levels.

Aisha’s Class: My class will explore a wide range of contemporary influences and movement practices. Some days will center on improvisational exploration, others will focus on rigor, effort, and technical clarity. Certain sessions may feel like a traditional class, while others will lean into more experimental approaches. Ultimately, this class is designed to be a creative playground for movement : ) LET’S DANCE
Marty’s Class: This Intermediate/Advanced class features modern and contemporary movement exercises designed for those who enjoy being challenged in body and mind. We’ll begin with a brief slow movement meditation to awaken, then move into follow-along exercises inspired by Limòn and Laban techniques respectively and elemental imagery. We’ll lean into repetition for stamina and deep embodiment, directional shifts for sharpness and awareness, and dual-sided combo phrases. Come ready to sweat and enjoy a movement flow for both sides of the brain.
