loud hands, gentle spirit  is a deeply expressive, stimmy, and colorful multimedia film that gives viewers insight into the autistic experience of vibrance, joyful self stimulatory behavior, and profound connection with the earth. This work provides a neuroqueer and embodied lens in which to imagine a more interdependent and harmonious future, where all living beings, including neurodivergent and otherwise disabled people, are seen, heard, and cared for collectively.

Alyssa Rose (they/them) is a Lebanese-American, disabled, neurodivergent, non-binary and queer radical dreamer of liberation. They create paintings, collage, sculptures, movement-art/dance, and healthy cultural ecosystems in dance communities. Currently, Alyssa serves as the program coordinator at DISCO RIOT, a movement-arts nonprofit based in San Diego. Alyssa feels called to guide humans home to their bodies and empower marginalized people through embodiment. They use dance and visual art to explore the mystery of being alive and interconnected. Alyssa’s ongoing interests span research around Buddha Dharma, collective liberation, community care,  and how these areas of focus can be expressed through art and artistic process. As lead artist of the Move American Campaign, Alyssa curated, organized, and produced all 10 films, and is so excited to be sharing this work with their community.
