Tell us about your history with dance, performance, and art practice. How has it influenced your voice as a dancer/choreographer?
In the past, I’ve always let my relationship with dance be very inspired- by what I’m learning or processing or discussing with friends. It usually feels like everything in my life points back to the creation process and builds itself into the work. In this process, though, I’ve had to focus more on process through discipline and working even when it doesn’t feel like a flow state, which has taught me a lot about my own creative process.
What does your typical creation process look like? This could include pre-rehearsal idea development, rehearsal process, and any other relevant aspects of your process.
This has looked like so many things! Sometimes it looks like interpreting a passage from a book into movement, or asking ourselves questions then journaling and interpreting that as movement, or just taking the time to question for ourselves what feels good, since our piece is about embodiment.
