This intersection of performance and participation creates a unique embodiment opportunity for dancers and audiences-participants alike. Choreo & The Big Gay PICNIC

DISCO RIOT is excited to present Choreo & The Big Gay PICNIC on May 19, 2024. Under the direction of Producing Artist Martin Anthony Dorado, this event will include outdoor dance performance + picnic shenanigans in collaboration with The Big Gay Picnic! Between performances, the audience will have the opportunity to enjoy a good ol’ picnic.
PICNIC (noun)
A picnic is an excursion or outing with shareable foods provided by the participants and eaten in the open. Picnickers like to sit on the ground, on a rug or blanket while dining “alfresco.” Picnics can be informal or fancy, playful or elegant, simple or extravagant. Outdoor games or some other form of entertainment are common at large picnics, and lend to the carefree, pleasant, and wholesome experience.

This event included dance performances + karaoke, spooky style! Between dances, the audience performed karaoke featuring 80s, 90s, and early 00s jams, and mingle in a festive costume party environment.

As part of the La Jolla Playhouse Without Walls (WOW) Festival, DISCO RIOT presented Choreo & Fly, a blend of kite-flying and dances! WOW is an interactive, site-inspired theater and performance festival with free events for community members of all ages.

As part of the City of San Diego’s Park Social Initiative, DISCO RIOT presented Choreo & Kickball at Olive Grove Park. Park Social is a citywide initiative that introduces social-specific contemporary art into the City’s vast and varied park system.
